Don't you just love libraries? Despite have a reading pile comprising of a ton of books at home, I always look forward to my regular trips to the library where I enjoy spending hours browsing through the shelves,remembering gems which I love and finding new writers to add to my ever increasing collection at home.
Today, despite telling myself on my way there that I was not going to borrow any books, I dropped off my huge pile and went for a quick browse and spotted a book which I just had to borrow - Nine Coaches Waiting by Mary Stewart. I don't know why I picked it off the shelves having read it some years ago, but as soon as I read the first page I was enraptured.
Not much happened in the first few pages, but I was simply hooked. Mary Stewart's prose is so rich, so lyrical and so utterly enchanting that it just sweeps you away.
I just cannot wait to read more of this wonderful book and to enjoy the magic that is Mary Stewart!

Know just what you mean about Mary Stewart's books -- whenever I'm in the library -- which isn't very often -- I always look for "Wildfire at Midnight." Much as I would like to shake and throw Nick across the room for the way he treated Gianetta in the past, there is just something about the story that has very happy about their HEA.
Another book like that is Victoria Holt's "Pride of the Peacock." I truly hated the fact that he gave the harlequin opal to another woman -- just because of his pride. There was no way that he could make up for that. It was just something that both of them had to accept and live with.

We have such similiar reading taste as I am a big fan of both Mary Stewart and Victoria Holt. I am savouring Nine Coaches Waiting and I am thoroughly enjoying it. Her writing is so rich and heady and brimming with romance and suspense that I really do not want to see it end. I must admit I've not read Wildfire at Midnight - it must be one of the few Mary Stewarts I've not read - but I made a note of it and will make sure to track it down.
I read Pride of the Peacock many years ago and loved it. The details in my mind are pretty hazy, but for me, my favourite Victoria Holt novel is Menfreya. Maybe it's because it's the first VH I ever read, but I loved it. I loved the setting, the romance and the intrigue and I still enjoy reading it ever time I pick it up.
